Primary goal of this fuel management operational treatment is to reduce the wildfire risk to the communication infrastructure located at the top of Mt. Pocahontas on Texada Island. Wildfire risk will be lowered by reducing the wildfire threat through modification of existing vegetation. The Mt. Pocahontas fuel management treatment on 5.1 ha of Crown forest, will be carried out according to specifications for the treatment units as listed in the approved Mt. Pocahontas Fuels Management Prescription and the Mt. Pocahontas Fuels Management Maps. Treating the units to achieve prescribed conditions will be accomplished by cutting and removing a component of dead standing, understory stems and pruning of retained trees to increase the stand average crown height. Reducing the fuel hazard by removing debris, as well as continuous surface fuels and ladder fuels to the indicated levels in the attached Mt. Pocahontas Fuels Management prescription.
