Alberta's provincial parks and recreation areas conserve our natural heritage and provide popular nature-based recreation opportunities to visitors from across the province and around the world. They also play a major role in Alberta's tourism industry, providing opportunities for small businesses and having positive impacts on the economies of many local communities. Alberta Environment and Parks (the Province) is seeking business entities or non-profit organizations to provide facility operations and maintenance for the Jarvis Bay Operating Group. Wabamun Lake Facility Operating Group (FOG) consists of the single park of Wabamun Lake Provincial Park which is located approximately 60 kilometres west of Edmonton on Yellowhead Highway 16. The park is situated beside Moonlight Bay on the eastern side of Lake Wabamun. In addition to treed sites for camping, there are trails for hiking and biking, and a large beach area for swimming, boating and sailing. Average campground occupancy over the last 5 seasons is approximately 21,550 per year, plus an average of about 175 group camping nights annually. Unfortunately, accurate statistics for day use visitors are not available for this location. However, given the proximity of the park to Edmonton, it is extremely popular as a day use destination. Some important points related to the Premises: - Wabamun Lake Campground has 187 power sites and 88 unserviced sites, and is 100%reservable on Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca (RAP) during peak season. The minimum operating season is May long weekend to Thanksgiving long weekend. - Group Use A and Group Use B both have 5 unit minimums and 12 unit maximums. What was previously Group Use C (which has been closed for the past two seasons) is being discontinued as a facility area and Group Use D is being converted into a day use area with a picnic shelter. Group Use E is expected to be unavailable for the 2022 and 2023 seasons with it reverting to group camping by the 2024 season. - In addition to the large waterfront day use area, there is another day use area in what used to be Group Use D. The Facility Operating Agreement will be for a 5 year term commencing March 2022. Alberta Parks project objectives are: To inspire people to discover, value, protect, and enjoy the natural world and the benefits it provides for current and future generations in compliance with the park management plan(s) and/or the goals and objectives of Alberta Parks; To encourage private sector interest and opportunities in provincial parks; To collaborate with businesses and organizations to provide memorable experiences to visitors through high quality outdoor recreation opportunities and facilities; To provide a variety of services in an efficient, cost-effective, consistent, and customer-oriented manner; To collaborate with the private sector in sharing current provincial responsibilities for security and public safety services, and repairs, renovation, upgrading and enhancement of facilities currently in place; and To offset the Province's operating costs.
