Site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a transportation facility; and for the construction of a transportation facility.
Construction of a Transit Zero Emissions Maintenance Facility, and a Community Transit Hub/Park and Ride near the downtown core of Sydney. A partnership that includes a park and ride format for the future Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Sydney Downtown Campus will be incorporated into the design of the facility. TIMELINE: The consultants have conducted a comprehensive review and analysis of the delivery of public transit service within the municipality to inform a transitional approach to a fully Zero Emissions Bus (ZEB) fleet. Scope of work also included preliminary design (and Class C estimate) for a purpose build Transit Zero Emissions Maintenance Facility and Community Transit Hub. RFP for project management services has been awarded. The project manager is to oversee the transition from concept design to detailed design and construction of the facility; and to support the initial transition to zero emissions buses through the procurement of the first six (6) battery electric buses. Further update may be available fall 2024. Project has received a combined investment of $54 million from all three levels of Government (includes funding for new electric buses). *Construction budget to be confirmed.
