In an ongoing effort to reduce the risk of wildfires, the Province requires fuel modification treatments of approximately 20.7 hectares in the community of Rainbow Lake. Treatments will be in accordance with FireSmart standards and prescriptions consisting of thinning, pruning, mulching and the removal of dead and downed woody debris with the potential for pile burning. The project will be broken out into two sections as follows: Treatment of approximately 1.4 hectares will expand the west side of the Rainbow Lake fire guard. Treatment Area Location: NE Sec 34 Twp 109 Rge 9 West 6 Approximately 19.3 hectares will receive a secondary FireSmart treatment with the first being completed in 2016. Treatment Area Location: SW Sec 34 Twp 109 Rge 9 West 6 The prime objective of these treatments is to reduce fuel load, fire intensity and ember transport by the thinning of conifer.
