PURPOSE:
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is soliciting bids from qualified firms to provide all labor, supervision, equipment, materials, traffic control, supplies, and all incidentals to prepare and mulch plant beds and individual trees at two locations in Loudoun County in Northern Virginia District.
PERIOD OF CONTRACT: Thirty-One (31) calendar days from the date of award. QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS eVA QUICK QUOTE:
Any questions regarding this quick quote shall be addressed to Nasir Chhipa via email at nasir.chhipa@vdot.virginia.gov. The issuing office shall determine whether any addendum should be issued as a result of any questions or other matters raised. SPECIFICATIONS / CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS:
The Contractor shall provide all labor, supervision, equipment, materials, supplies, traffic control, and any incidentals to prepare and mulch plant beds at the following locations:
A. MULCHING:
1. Furnish double shredded hardwood mulch, disease free, brown in color, and shall conform to the Mulch and Soil Council Standards for classification, particle size, percentage wood content, moisture retention, and pH rating.
2. Remove all weeds, grass, and debris. Remove dead leaves from perennial plants if needed. Cultivate all compacted soil or mulch with manual cultivating tools only and remove old incrusted mulch. Mechanical equipment such as roto-tillers shall not be allowed.
3. Create a clean edge between plant beds and adjacent turf areas, curbs, or other paved surface.
4. Rake smooth all areas that will receive mulch. Place a uniform three inch layer of mulch over all exposed areas between and around trees and shrubs, and over dormant perennials such as daylilies. Mulch tree rings will be formed around all individual trees. Mulch shall not be placed closer than 12 inches to tree trunks or against/on shrub stems. Mulch tree rings shall be placed at the base of the tree in the shape of a tree well that slightly exceeds the tree's drip line.
5. Sweep or blow clean all paved surfaces in the work area.
6. Mulch shall not be placed or stored on the roadway, sidewalks/asphalt paths, or adjacent private property.
7. The Contractor's crew foreman will submit cell phone videos (preferred) or photographs of tasks #2, 3, 4, and 5 immediately upon completion of each task.
