Renovation of a mixed-use development in Morehead City, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a military facility and road / highway.
This project will repair the existing asphalt paved road and concrete boat landing ramp at Radio Island. The work will specifically restore the road and stabilize the eastern shoulder. Surface cracks in the concrete boat landing ramp will also be repaired and sections of it will be replaced. The existing guard house and office building will be demolished and replaced with a precast concrete building with slab, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. This project will remove and replace sections of Marine Road that were washed out during past storms. The eastern side of the road will be reinforced with stone gabions so that road repairs will last. RIPRAP will be removed and replaced along the east side of the LCU Facility with new Armour stone. Cover the revetment with the excavated sand and sprig with native vegetation per the NC Erosion and Sedimentation Design Manual. The existing fence will be removed and replaced with chain link fence at the installation boundary. Surface cracks in the concrete boat loading ramp and adjacent concrete slab will be repaired. All cracks will be cleared of loose sediments and debris. A new flexible polyurethane concrete crack sealant that forms a permanent watertight seal will be applied. Sections of the concrete slab adjacent to the loading ramp will be replaced. The new concrete will be rated at 4000 PSI and finished off to match existing concrete slabs. The existing guard shack and office building will be demolished. A new concrete slab will be installed for the new Operations building. The new building will be precast concrete and measure at 20' wide X 30' long X 10' high. The precast will be anchored and sealed to the new concrete slab. The roof will be precast metal with a 8" slope and extend 4" beyond the wall. The exterior finish will be exposed aggregate. The building will have an electrical panel, two receptacles on each wall, ceiling light fixtures, and switches. A new HVAC package will be installed to provide both heating and cooling.
