This project aims to improve the accessibility of wastewater and effluent data accessibility for managers of provincial water resources.
The project objectives are two-fold: 1) Compile an up-to-date, comprehensive, and provincially consistent data set of municipal wastewater and industrial effluent water (quantity and quality). 2) Improve electronic municipal wastewater and effluent reporting. To achieve these objectives, the proponent will: o Compile and review wastewater and industrial effluent monitoring records;
o Conduct a gap analysis to identify reported EPEA records not yet electronically captured and centrally stored by comparing current existing data sets in relation to reporting requirements;
o Identify notable limitations of existing data sets or reporting requirements relevant to potential bias or reproducibility:
For example:
o Patterns in capture vs. non-capture of data (e.g. sector, temporal, and/or geographical)
o Instances of incomplete reporting requirements or capture (e.g. calculated metrics, such as un-ionized ammonia, without variables necessary to reproduce them);
o Other observations
o Conduct a jurisdictional review of electronic reporting practices and available options to improve electronic reporting capabilities;o
Project deliverables are expected to include:o Facilitation of a workshop to present findings of informational and jurisdictional reviews and propose options for moving forward;
o Compilation of an up-to-date and functional municipal wastewater and effluent dataset;
o Tools (e.g., template) for digital data submission; and
o Presentation of database and project results to AEP and other stakeholders
o Report summarizing approach, results, and recommendations of the project, including the identification of any temporal and spatial data gaps within the data set compiled and entered into the database.
