The City of Delta is seeking to construct two sanitary sewer projects: Project 1: A new sanitary sewer forcemain in Tilbury, from Highway 17 at 7480 Wilson Avenue to the intersection of Progress Way at 76 Street. Project 2: A new gravity sanitary trunk sewer along Elliott Street in the Ladner Village core area from the Bridge Street to a pump station near the Ladner Community Centre on 51 Street. Project 1 generally consists of the supply and installation of approximately 957m of 710mm diameter DR 17 HDPE sanitary forcemain. The majority of the pipeline has been designed to be installed via open cut with one segment being installed via directional drill. Some notable challenges include: To minimize groundwater concerns during construction, where possible, the design of the pipeline has been developed to minimize the depth of bury. However, dewatering at various segments due to seasonal ground water levels and perched groundwater atop of peat layers will likely be required. Well point dewatering and ground water treatment will likely be required at the tie-in locations, at locations where ground water is encountered, and at trenchless entry and exit pits. Other notable challenges include: Poor soil conditions Crossing of drainage/ irrigation channels and bypassing of flows as necessary Coordination and compliance with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) requirements for work within the Highway 17 right-of-way Coordination and compliance with FortisBC for the trenchless crossing of a Transmission Pressure gas pipe Traffic management and control for all works adjacent to Highway 17 and near Progress Way Project 2 generally consists of the installation of approximately 460m of gravity sewer main in Ladner Village. The new sewer is currently under design and it is envisioned that the pipeline will be installed via open cut method.
