Site work for a water / sewer project in Maplewood, Minnesota. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The townhome development of Carriage Homes of Maple Hills is located north of Parkway Drive and west of Highway 61. Part of the development contains a large pond located within the ring road of Maple Hills Drive. This basin takes stormwater runoff from the surrounding properties. The basin is a no outlet storm basin. As part of the original development a storm sewer force main was installed from the basin out to Parkway Drive for future connection to the City's storm sewer system to provide a way to pump down the level of water in the storm basin. The proposed project will make the connection to the City's storm sewer system and allow the City to maintain the pond system. The existing storm sewer basin does not have an outlet that allows the City to maintain the water levels within the basin. Stronger and more intense storm events are taking place due to climate change. The proposed project will extend the existing storm sewer from the intersection of Maple Hills Drive and Parkway Drive to the existing storm sewer system located at the intersection of Parkway Drive and Highway 61. This will allow staff to pump down the water level in the pond, so there is adequate volume available for large storm events. This section of Parkway Drive is under the jurisdiction of Ramsey County. City staff have been coordinating with Ramsey County throughout 2021 on this project. This coordination has led to a proposed joint project. The proposed project includes the storm sewer force main to serve the Maple Hills townhomes, a bituminous pavement preservation project on Parkway Drive, and a new sidewalk segment that will connect the Maple Hills townhomes to the existing bust stop located at the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Parkway Drive. The proposed sidewalk segment is listed as a priority pedestrian corridor in the City's 2040 Comprehensive plan. The proposed project will be funded by the City and Ramsey County. As of April 22, 2022, this project is included in the City of Maplewood FY 2022-2026 CIP. Information regarding a design team and the contractor selection has not been disclosed. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
