Description

Site work for a water / sewer project in Santa Cruz, California. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The City of Santa Cruz Water Department is seeking design support for bank stabilization and associated environmental regulatory permitting support on along the right bank (looking downstream) of Branciforte Creek. On August 31, 2021 an 8" cast iron, high- pressure, treated-water pipeline ruptured scouring a portion of the Branciforte Creek bank and an approximately 12' long section of stacked broken concrete retaining wall which was providing erosion protection to the Santa Cruz County bridge abutments and Branciforte Drive. The pipeline break also undermined the support surrounding a thrust block to an adjacent 10" high-pressure water main. In addition to the bank stabilization component of this project, the environmental regulators indicated that compensatory mitigation would be required for the 17 cubic yards of streambank material that was discharged into Branciforte Creek as a result of the pipeline break. The scope of work should include design and/or an approach to mitigate the initial break impacts and any project impacts. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time
