The overall project scope of work is to install overhead per lane signal heads for the through lanes to reduce crashes. It will eliminate the number of signal heads and poles in the median that have been repeatedly struck further reducing crashes. Flashing yellow arrow left turn signals will be installed for better driver comprehension, for reduced left turn crashes. Federal funding from Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) under the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) was approved for a total estimated cost of $385,939 where 90% Federal share is $328,445 and the 10% County share is $36,494 funded by Milwaukee County. An additional $20,000 for right-of-way acquisition and $1,000 for construction of County funds are for ineligible items not covered by WISDOT. As of December 10, 2024, this project is included in the County 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
