VDescription. This item of work shall consist of, but is not limited to, work and operations
necessary for the movement of personnel, equipment, material and supplies to and from the project site
for work on the project except as provided in the contract as separate pay items. Also included is the
Contractor's responsibility to secure bonds, obtain permits, and pay the fees for permits, associated with
land disturbance and construction as are required to be obtained from local and state entities.
The Contractor shall also be responsible for staging areas, posting required notices, general maintenance
and routine cleaning of the offices and staging areas, and restoration of the staging areas to their original
condition at the completion of the project, unless otherwise noted on the plans.
This item shall include obtaining necessary permits from the state department of transportation for
construction entrances and temporary entrances onto public highways and for providing any associated
informational or traffic control signs.
The Contractor shall also be responsible for any protective measures, safety equipment, temporary traffic
management and phasing items, etc (i.e., vehicle flags, airport frequency radio units, barricades), and all
other items incidental to maintaining safe and secure progress of work as required by the RPR, Airport,
VDOT, and FAA.
The Contractor may construct and maintain haul roads as needed for the transportation of equipment and
material on the site. The location and composition of these haul roads are at the Contractor's discretion,
subject to the RPR's approval, unless otherwise described on the plans. Upon completion of work, haul
roads shall be removed, the area restored to its original condition, and permanently seeded at no cost to
the Owner. Construction, maintenance, and removal of discretionary haul roads for the Contractor's
convenience shall be at the Contractor's expense. There will be no payment for the costs associated with
these optional internal roadways separate from other pay items in the contract.
When the plans indicate that a specific haul road is required and shown on the plans, it shall be
constructed of crushed aggregate or demolished pavement obtained from the project. The required haul
road must be maintained throughout the project. Upon completion of work, the haul road shall be
removed, the area restored to its original condition, and permanently seeded.
Existing roads (paved or otherwise) indicated to remain after construction shall be restored to their
original condition at the completion of the project.
