The suggested location of the bridge construction is where the winter road north from Kashechewan crosses a tributary of the Albany River (Willow Creek), the bridges final location is the heart of this assignment. The Kashechewan First Nation is in the process of just commencing a relocation process to a location some 35 kms upriver. However, the relocation will take a few years before completion. The bridge will connect the Winter Road to Kashechewan. The Winter Road is the only land access for Kashechewan to Moosonee railyard and is the main supply line for bulk products. It provides a proper connection to the existing Winter Road, not the make-shift connection with multiple environmental impacts. Even after relocating the community to Site 5, the bridge will facilitate the passage of goods to catch the new road to Site 5 from the Winter Road. TIMELINE: RFP is expected to be re-issued with a modified scope of work; timelines to be determined. Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) funding and approvals are required to proceed. Further update may be available spring 2025.
