Description

Site work and renovation of a civil project in Morgan Hill, California. Completed plans call for the renovation of a development.

The purpose of the Coyote Ridge Public Access Improvement Project (project) is to provide infrastructure and amenities to allow for new public use and recreation at the 1,800-acre Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve (preserve). The preserve is located in rare serpentine grassland, which is vital to the threatened Bay checkerspot butterfly and Metcalf Canyon jewelflower, and provides critical habitat for the California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, tule elk, Western burrowing owls, golden eagles, and many other raptors. The project will provide the opportunity for the public to experience and learn about this unique landscape. The scope of the project includes grading and development of a formal gated entrance and vehicular access from Malech Road to a staging area including parking, a vault toilet, trails, and other public access amenities as well as three rest areas located along a 7.5-mile trail network primarily consisting of existing ranch roads. Additional features include shade structures, interpretive and wayfinding signage, as well as site furnishings such as benches and picnic tables. The project will also include site grading and mitigation measures to reduce impacts to protected species.
