The Virginia Department of Transportation, herein referred to as "VDOT," is soliciting bids from qualified firms to furnish and deliver a precast box culvert for Rte. 653 in Shenandoah County which is within the VDOT Staunton District, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in accordance with the specifications contained herein. Contractor shall design, furnish and deliver one (1) box culvert, 12'-0" span x 5'- 0" height, one (1) line at 33'-10 5/8"with a skewed inlet/outlet end sections as shown in Attachments AA2 . Standard sections shall be 5 feet 6 inches (5'-6") long, each section with male and female ends and zero degrees skew. Rubber or plastic plugs shall be included to close lifting holes in top slab after erection of box culvert. No other configuration or extra charges will be allowed. This solicitation is designated as a set-aside in accordance with the Small Business Enhancement Award Priority as a Small Business Set-Aside Award Priority: Reference General Term and Condition, paragraph Z, and Special Term and Condition paragraph A. The issuing office will determine whether any addenda should be issued as a result of any questions or other matters raised. Precast box culvert sections shall be waterproofed with epoxy-resin compound and aggregate in accordance with Section 416 of the 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications. Surface preparation prior to application of the epoxy-resin compound shall include sandblasting or grinding, followed by cleaning in accordance with Section 416.03 of the Specifications. Contractor shall waterproof entire top surface of each box culvert section and a portion of both side walls extending down a distance of 12" from the top corners of the section. Waterproofing shall terminate 6" from bell and spigot end to allow for installation of exterior joint wrap. The bell and spigot shall not be waterproofed. Shop drawings are required for review by VDOT and shall be submitted no later than five (5) business days after award date and prior to fabricating. Shop drawings shall be submitted electronically to Scott Earhart in PDF format to Scott.Earhart@vdot.virginia.gov, c.c. Alan Johnson at Alan.Johnson@vdot.virginia.gov. Shop drawings will be returned electronically to the Contractor within five (5) business days from date of receipt by VDOT. Box culvert shall be constructed in accordance with ASTM Standard C1577-20, 0 to 2 feet fill, HLHL-93 Tandem Live Load conditions and Section 302 of 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications with the following additions and/or exceptions: a. Clear concrete cover over the reinforcing steel: 1. Top Slab-Top Reinforcement 2 1/2" (+3/8", -0") 2. Top Slab-Bottom Reinforcement 2" (+3/8", -0") 3. All other reinforcement 1 1/2" (+3/8", -0")
