The work of the Ohlone Greenway Modernization and safety Project consists of the following components: In general, the work will consist of: Widening the Ohlone Greenway and updating lighting where feasible; On-street cycle track on Peralta Avenue between Hopkins Street and the Ohlone Greenway; and Safety improvements at intersection crossings, including rectangular rapid flashing beacons, raised crossings, curb extensions, and median refuges. More specifically, the Work consists of but is not limited to, coordination with utility companies, AC Transit, BART, and nearby businesses and residents; saw-cutting; removal of existing pavement markings and raised pavement markers; removal of existing asphalt concrete pavements; removal of Portland cement concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; removal of trees and landscaping; construction of new Portland cement concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, and medians; installation of asphalt concrete pavement and raised crossings; adjusting utility boxes and covers to grade; installation of pavement striping and markings; installation of curb paint; installation of signage; installation of and installation of solar-powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) and lighting. The work includes preparation and submittal of a Construction Phasing Plan, as well as Traffic Control Plans for each phase of work. The Contractor is responsible to obtain and comply with all necessary permits and approvals to perform the work. The Contractor is also responsible for coordinating its work with other upcoming and ongoing projects, operations, and maintenance activities by others. Location: The location of the Work is described in these Specifications and shown in the Plans. In general, the Work of this project is along the Ohlone Greenway between Virginia Gardens to the south and Santa Fe Avenue to the north, including intersection crossings. The engineers estimate for the work of this contract is $3,554,000. California Contractor License Classification required: A General Engineering This work shall be diligently prosecuted to Substantial Completion before the expiration of 220 WORKING DAYS from the effective date of the Notice to Proceed, and to Final Completion (except for the work of Bid Item No 89, Tree Establishment 1 year (Revocable) and Bid Item No. 90 Seeding Establishment 1 year) before the expiration of 240 WORKING DAYS from the effective date of the Notice to Proceed. Final Completion of the entire contract shall be complete on the 365th CALENDAR DAY immediately following the date of Substantial Completion. Time of Work and Liquidated Damages: The City anticipates an approximately six-month period from the issuance of Notice of Award to the issuance of the Notice to Proceed. The Contractor shall commence work of construction under the contract within fifteen (15) working days following the effective date of the Notice to Proceed. The Notice to Proceed will be issued after the contract is fully executed. Each proposal must be accompanied by an unconditionally certified or cashier's check or bid bond made payable to the City of Berkeley, and such check or bond shall be in an amount equal to at least 10% of the amount of the bid. Faithful Performance Bond in an amount not less than 100% of the amount of the contract, executed on the City of Berkeley Standard Performance Bond agreement form.
