Site work, new construction and renovation of an educational facility in Brookings, South Dakota. Design plans call for the construction of a educational facility; for the renovation of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
The site includes appropriate utilities and access. In addition to new facilities the project would also include upgrades to existing facilities. This project would transform the Cottonwood Field Station into a nationally recognized, innovative range beef cattle research and education site supporting ranchers and rangeland managers. Upgrading the station would provide modern facilities for experimental research in beef production handling, grazing, nutrition, breeding, and grassland management. The new facility would be one fully enclosed and climate-controlled building added to the site that would include a classroom/conference area, locker rooms, calving area, cattle handling area, laboratory, office, and wash area. Semi-closed structures would include a monoslope feeding barn, machine shop, holding pens, and a commodity shed. The existing facilities would be upgraded for animal welfare including the current working barn. Upgrades would include new working chutes, sorting pens, and dry feedlots. The project will need to be designed and ready for bid advertisement by the fall of 2023. Construction is anticipated to be completed in fall of 2024. As of October 10, 2023, this project is in design. Construction is anticipated to occur in spring 2023.
