The intent of the Work is to remediate a sink hole that has developed in the east student parking lot at Portage College located in Lac La Biche. The College's staff recently became aware of a sink hole developing in the east parking lot of the College (Figure 1.0). On June 8, 2022, BAR visited the site. After removing more material from the sink hole, it was found that an existing cylindrical concrete structure (Figure 1.1), resembling a catch basin or utility vault was present under the area of the asphalt failure. Cracking in the asphalt was observed that followed the exterior footprint of the underlying concrete structure. The work involves: 1. Saw-cutting the existing asphalt (approximately 4 meters by 4 meters square) 2. Removing the existing concrete structure and any unsuitable material found within the saw-cut area. 3. Disposing the removed concrete structure and any unsuitable material. 4. Backfilling the void created by removing the structure and unsuitable materials with compacted clay, compacted granular sub-base, and granular base course. 5. Ensuring completion of QA/QC testing with 3rd party materials testing for density and gradation. 6. Replacing asphalt surface at its original thickness.
