Construction of a carbon-neutral multi-purpose community centre that will bring together services of the four owner's facilities located throughout the city. The new structure will help the community organization Sun Youth to increase the offer of services to vulnerable communities while considerably reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The new carbon neutral facility will include solar panels, 25 geothermal wells and a rooftop garden. A gymnasium with changing rooms, multifunctional rooms, a grocery store-style food bank and community spaces will complete the package. The installation will be a showcase and a place to promote the values of mutual aid, sharing and healthy community living habits, in particular by sharing its premises with other neighborhood organizations. TIMELINE: The project is preliminary. To complete the funding package of the project the owner has launched a fundraising campaign. The raised funds will be added to the Quebec Government funding allocation at the level of $10,7 million made through Infrastructure Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. Owner is finalizing the project scope and hopes to proceed to the project design in summer 2024. Note. According to the owner's preliminary scheduling construction start is expected during the winter of 2023-2024, with an opening in the spring of 2025.
