As of January 2, 2025, a general contractor has been awarded and construction is nearing completion. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The University of Akron has authorized the Department of Capital Planning and Facilities Management to request qualifications for Professional Design Services for improvements to the campus mechanical infrastructure. The University of Akron's main campus heating and cooling system utilizes central chilled water (CW) and high temperature heating water (HTHW). These pipelines operate with different levels of protection, including direct burial and walking tunnels. In addition to the tunnels the campus has a series of vaults where the direct buried piping can be accessed. This project will replace 10" High Temperature Hot Water direct-buried supply and return lines from the Martin Fountain (MF) Vault, extending west approximately 350 linear feet (includes approx. 850 feet of existing supply and return HTHW piping) toward the "Split Rock" tunnel. An existing vault along that length of line, south of Ritchie Hall, will be removed and eliminated. The A/E will prepare construction documents detailing the scope of work required, develop an estimated costs for the scope of work and advise the Owner if the costs are comparable to the construction cost indicated in Section C of this document. The A/E will provide construction administration during construction. The A/E will provide all close out documentation upon completion of the project.
