The CSB will replace the existing Chemistry Library with a new 100,000-110,000 gsf facility in its place on the University of Washington’s (UW) Seattle campus. CSB will enable a new mode of science where cutting-edge fundamental chemical research can transform into real-world applications in real-time. The program, which includes new wet labs, high-performing labs, research offices, collaboration spaces, general assignment classrooms, and support spaces, will co-locate faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students to facilitate innovation and interdisciplinary discovery in chemical sciences research. As of October 22, 2025, this project is in the definition phase. An architect and MEP have been selected. Early bid packages will be released in spring of 2026 and include demo, abatement, underground utilities, shoring and excavation. Other packages will be issued as permit packages are completed starting in late 2026. The project is expected to be completed in April of 2028. Skanska USA will serve at the design builder.
