Inspections were previously provided by Preferred Tank and Tower, Inc. indicating four (4) Elevated Water Towers (EWT), owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Corrections, are out of compliance with requirements set forth by OSHA, EPA, NFPA and AWWA. While there is no fine or regulatory penalty for using these water towers being out of compliance, maintaining potable water in the towers is priority. Exterior corrosion on tank surface can cause leaks and risk tower tank shut down. Repairs are needed to maintain the water towers/tanks and to meet requirements as set forth by authorities having jurisdiction to meet health safety and security of the facilities. The towers maintain water pressure and capacity during utility supply outages. Repairs consist of painting interior and exterior of the structures, structural integrity of the entire tank system, updates needed for worker safety to comply with OSHA standards, removal of sediment and debris in the tank, and quality potable water supply to the facilities. The water towers supply water to the following Correctional Facilities: Bell County Forestry Camp (BCFC), Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC), Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women (KCIW), Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP) and in LaGrange, KY: Kentucky State Reformatory (KSR), Roederer Correctional Complex (RCC) and Luther Luckett Correctional Complex (LLCC).
