Site work and paving for a road / highway in Milton, Vermont. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
The Town of Milton Conservation Commission (MCC) is seeking the services of a qualified professional firm for the final design and construction of an unpaved, universally accessible shared use trail at the Milton Town Forest (MTF). The MTF is located adjacent to the Milton/Westford town line, and is used by residents for a variety of recreational activities, such as hiking, hunting, birdwatching, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The land on which the trail is located was purchased by the Town in 2007 to provide public access to the previously landlocked MTF. In 2008, the Town adopted a MTF Management Plan (MTFMP) for the responsible stewardship of the land, which was amended in 2011. In 2012, the Town installed an 8-space parking lot and the existing access trail. The current trail serves primarily as an access point to the wider network of hiking trails in the MTF. In 2017, the Town of Milton received grant funds from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) of the Vermont Department of Forest Parks and Recreation for MTF trail improvements. In 2018, these funds were used to construct a smooth surface ADA compliant trail from the MTF parking area to the first stream crossing (Phase 1). This Request for Proposals (RFP) is seeking a qualified contractor to construct an additional section of trail (Phase II) that will extend from the bridge (over the first stream crossing) to a point adjacent to the Milton Marsh. The Phase II improvement is necessary because of The nearly continuous wet (mud) conditions, that prevent ADA access, decrease the shape of the trail and hinder the user experience. To avoid mud conditions, trail users are going outside the trail corridor thereby increasing the width of the trail. Due to poor soil (clay) and seasonal surface water runoff, the existing trail base cannot sustain the increased use. Any clarifying questions regarding the RFP should be directed to Cymone Bedford, Planning Director by June 22, 2023 12:00pm. This new trail upgrade must be constructed by December 31, 2023. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time. The Town of Milton retains the right to reject any proposals received, to negotiate with any qualified source, or to cancel in part or in entirety this RFP as in the best interest of the Town of Milton. This solicitation in no way obligates the Town of Milton to award a contract.
