Site work for a detention facility in Memphis, Tennessee. Conceptual plans call for site work for a detention facility.
Various local correctional facilities have experienced breaches of their fence line in the past year, with individuals from the public cutting the fence. These are serious security concerns that leads to primary security risks. We seek to add fencing to the fencing that currently exists (a second fence line with razor wire and electrical capabilities), and we seek to fence the employee parking areas, just as the parking area at Shelby County Sheriff's Office Jail East location, is fenced. This will increase safety to our employees, as well as providing safety to the general public by helping to maintain the security line at our facilities. Financial Impact: This project promotes the fundamental, core function of a correctional facility. The fencing promotes operating efficiency by making it more difficult for the individuals to violate the confinement of the inmates/detainees. The safety requirements of our regulatory agency will be met, and the likelihood of an escape, overdose, or introduction of a weapon into our facility will be reduced, which increases the safety of our citizens inside and outside the facility. This project is included in the county's FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program. As of December 14, 2022, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
