The City of Alexandria (City), Virginia is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, of 15.75 square miles with a population of 159,647. The City of Alexandria, Virginia, established in 1749, is a municipal corporation and an urban community and is the most densely populated jurisdiction in Virginia. With its stable residential neighborhoods, its historic districts, and its proximity to Washington, D.C., the City continues to attract new residents, tourists, and businesses. As an independent city, Alexandria derives its governing authority from the Virginal General Assembly. The City has adopted a council-manager form of government where the City Manager is responsible for overseeing the City's administration and departments. The City's various Sponsor Departments are responsible for identifying, planning, initiating, and funding maintenance and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) within their purview. These include, but are not limited to, the divisions of Transportation and Environmental Services Division (T&ES), General Services (GS), Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA), Planning and Zoning (P&Z), and the Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA). The Departments of Project Implementation (DPI), Transportation and Environmental Services Division (T&ES), General Services (GS), and Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) are tasked with management and delivery of CIP projects. The scope of services herein will support the Sponsor and Managing Departments with delivery of projects.
