Renovation of a municipal facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
111 Sussex Dr. (John G Diefenbaker Building) does not have an exterior quick connect attachment to bypass its base building generator in the case of failure. Currently a manual connection must be completed by an electrician in order to connect the facility to a portable emergency generator. GOC1960592 has been tasked to install a permanent quick connect which will allow the building to be easily connected to a temporary generator when required. All applicable codes must be maintained for the connection as per the applicable (i.e. voltage, power, orientation, etc.) and standards including but not limited to CSA C282 Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings. Installing a permanent quick connection and remote start/stop controls for a temporary generator increases safety dramatically. An electrician will no longer be required to complete a manual connection. It will also eliminate the requirement to run electrical cables over the parking garage entrance columns. Physical security and environmental benefits will be realized as doors do not have remain open to accommodate electrical cables. The reliability, and efficiency of the transition to temporary emergency power will also be significantly increased when the base building generator fails or requires maintenance or service.
