The Ministry of Forests is leasing a property from the Regional District in Revelstoke for the operation of Columbia Fire Zone. The fire zone is located close to the Revelstoke airport and the air tanker base. The Ministry is seeking to develop the fire zone and provide sufficient and healthy workspace for the current and projected staffing levels. The current facilities are insufficient in size and pose health risks. The objective is to provide a new efficient, cohesive and safe working environment for the BCWS staff at the zone. The Ministry recently completed a feasibility study that gave options to develop the site and solutions for the construction of a new building, consolidating several of existing building activities and providing a better and more effective workspace. Furthermore, the Ministry engaged with a consultant team to progress the design to tender and construction. The Ministry wishes now to contract the services of a construction manager in order to provide advisory services during the pre-construction phase and perform the required work during the construction phase. WSP understands that the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) plans for a development expansion of the Columbia Fire Zone. The existing facilities on site are insufficient in size and pose health risks to resident staff, so a new building is proposed. We anticipate the demolition of the existing facilities except for one warehouse, and the concept of a new, more efficient replacement.
