The new building will include apparatus vehicle and maintenance spaces and related storage and support spaces, administrative offices, and living quarters for 14 staff / first responders. The site was previously occupied by a wood frame structure, for which the Owner has contracted with a separate contractor to abate and demolish the structure including all footings and foundations. An existing underground oil storage tank (noted in the Phase I ESA & Phase II LSI Executive Summary in Section 00 31 00 - Available Project Information) has also been removed, and there was no soil contamination noted. Excavations within the building footprint for removal of slabs on grade, foundations, and footings will not be backfilled following completion of removal, except to provide slope stabilization to sides of excavations. The work of this project will include site clearing and demolition of remaining paving and site appurtenances necessary to construct the new building and site as indicated in these construction documents. The existing conditions on the site include an existing septic system and septic tank, the locations of which are currently not exactly known, which shall be removed in their entirety as part of this project. The contractor shall locate and remove the systems completely. Significant piles of previously cut tree trunks exist on the site, which shall be removed and disposed of by the contractor by chipping, shredding, or removal in current condition, per the contractor's option. A portion of wood can be chipped and used as slope stabilization mulch with excess material being disposed of at contractor's option.
