The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is seeking a vendor to design and install artistic work for the 112 Southampton Street Shelter courtyard in Boston. BPHC invites and welcomes public art installations proposals for the newly designed outdoor space. This is part of a larger project to provide an outside space for unhoused adult men to relax and recreate as an alternative to the streets. The Southampton Street shelter provides services to over 300 men experiencing homelessness each night. See Appendix A for the current layout design the specific locations are F1 - F5, G1 and W1.The scope will consist of the following three building and site areas: a large wall mural on an existing brick wall size 60 feet x 20 feet, track and seating area paint on existing asphalt ground 3,000 SF, and existing metal chain link fence treatment 300 linear fee. The City of Boston and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) are committed to protecting, preserving, and promoting the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable. To best serve its residents and close critical gaps, the BPHC is dedicated to the improved coordination, communication, and efficiency of services addressing the impacts and intersectionality of substance use disorders, mental health and homelessness. The Boston Public Health Commission is seeking a Vendor to design and install artistic work for the 112 Southampton Street Shelter courtyard. 112 Southampton Shelter in Boston invites and welcomes public art installations proposals for the newly designed outdoor space This is part of a larger project to provide an outside space for unhoused adult men to relax and recreate as an alternative to the streets. The Southampton Street shelter provides services to over 300 men experiencing homelessness each night. See Appendix A for the current layout design the specific locations are F1 - F5, G1 and W1. Desired date for notification of award to proposer however, BPHC has the discretion to extend this date without notice. The contract(s) results from this RFP shall be in effect when all necessary contract documentation is fully executed by BPHC and awarded Vendor(s). The scope will consist of the following three building and site areas: a large wall mural on an existing brick wall size 60 feet x 20 feet, track and seating area paint on existing asphalt ground 3,000 SF, and existing metal chain link fence treatment 300 linear feet. This project will consist of the following deliverables: o Design and install of proposed and approved art o Engage students from the Boston Arts Academy in the project o Attendance at scheduled meetings o Complete at least 75% of the project by March 31, 2023. The BPHC shall negotiate with contractors any requirements not set forth in the RFP. A qualified Vendor will demonstrate o Expertise in designing and installing artwork suitable for outdoors. o Create a theme that celebrates and relevant content that is meaningful to the neighborhood location including an element of history, culture, or a combination of both o Demonstrated ability to create and present work suitable for an outdoor display, including the use of appropriate materials that are safe and durable, and include an anti-graffiti protective coating. The work should be original and uniquely enhance the shelter outdoor space o The work should be original and uniquely enhance the public space. o Ability to meet project timelines o Ability to work with stakeholders. To be considered for award, the proposal must include the following in this order: 1. Description of the approach to the work, including justifications for this approach and qualifications to complete the approach, no longer than three (3) pages. We encourage the artist to develop an acute understanding of the site prior to submitting a proposal.Having an awareness of the site will enhance the Artist prospective of the work surface, how it relates to the surrounding elements, and the installation requirements to accomplish this project.
