As of May 17, 2023, this project is in the conceptual phase. An engineer has not been selected. Although a firm timeline for construction has not been determined, construction is not expected to start prior to March 2024. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: PROJECT BACKGROUND AND SCOPE OF WORK DESIRED: History: In 1952, Winston Lake Park was proposed, and the Allen organization developed a master plan which included a lake, picnic facilities, playground, swimming pool, nature trail and 18 hold golf courses. In 1956, the first 9 holes of the course opened. On May 31, 1962, the City signed a contract with Ellis Maples to design and supervise the construction as nine additional holes for the golf course. The additional holes were opened for play on April 15, 1964. Throughout the years golf tournaments, ladies auxiliary golf groups, Senior Golf Association, Ernest Morris Junior Golf Academy, were formed and held at this location. In the later 1980's, a new maintenance building, driving range, clubhouse expansion with cart storage facility was constructed. A new club house was constructed in 2002. In 2014, Winston Lake Golf Course got a refresh. All new, reshaped greens with Diamond Zoysia grass were installed, selected tree removal around tee boxes, fairways, and greens were completed to improve sight lines. In November 2014, voters approved bonds to make improvements to the driving range, cart paths and bridges, reconstruct sand traps and add an on-course restroom. In 2018, City Council approved bonds to make improvements to the irrigation system. Request for Qualifications (RFQs) are being requested from experience Golf Course Architects, Landscape Architects, or consultants, to provide golf course design services for Winston Lake Golf Course at Winston Lake Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for an 18-hole facility. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
