Renovation of an educational facility in Grayson, Kentucky. Design plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
As of July 14, 2023 a design team has been selected. A construction timeline has not been established yet. *The previous closed solicitation is listed below for reference. The Commonwealth of Kentucky, Finance & Administration Cabinet, Division of Engineering & Contract Administration (DECA) is seeking professional design services for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) / Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC). KCTCS/ACTC has recently purchased an existing facility on property adjacent to the Technology Drive campus. The goal of this recent purchase, and this current Project, is to relocate both the Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology programs to a larger facility with space to grow these programs. The Commerce Drive facility, constructed in 2001, contains 55,000 sf of warehouse space with restroom facilities included, and 5,126 sf of office space which will be renovated to accommodate classrooms, instructor offices, workroom, conference room, etc. KCTCS/ACTC anticipates that both the office and warehouse spaces would be renovated, but only about 24,000 square feet of the warehouse space would be utilized for current programs and therefore renovated in this project. The remainder of space would not be renovated under this project except as required to accommodate the portion of the project that is being renovated. This unrenovated space will be used for future growth of these or other programs. The existing building is in overall good condition. Architecturally, renovations are required to meet the functional space needs of the KCTCS/ACTC programs and to meet their specifications for materials and systems. The mechanical and electrical systems will need to be replaced due to age, inefficiency and requirements to comply with the KCTCS standards for offices and classrooms. The plumbing infrastructure is in good condition and will only have to be modified as needed to accommodate new fixture layouts. The site at this facility is well developed but will require modifications to allow for more parking at the building entrance and to create entry points for vehicular access to the warehouse space. KCTCS/ACTC would also like to create an area for CDL training on the site. This area would include removal of topsoil and placement of stone paving for driving and parking of large trucks. There is ample area on the site adjacent to and around the building to accomplish these goals. A feasibility study was conducted in 2022. This study recommended the course of action of this project CONSULTANT TEAM COMPOSITION The consultant team shall include, at a minimum, the following professional design Disciplines/Expertise. Disciplines/Expertise may reside in one or multiple persons/firms. The consultant team may include other expertise in additional to that listed below. o Architect o Mechanical Engineer o Electrical Engineer o Civil Engineer o Structural Engineer
