Development of the Town's lands at Blockhouse Hill. Blockhouse Hill consists of roughly 22.53 acres northeast adjacent to Old Town Lunenburg, sloping towards Lunenburg's Back Harbour. The site is located from Creighton to Sawpit Hopson Loop to Sawpit Green Corridors. TIMELINE: Project is conceptual. In 2023, MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects Ltd. were engaged to develop design concepts for a mix of low-density, medium-and high-density residential housing on the undeveloped land. The preferred concept chosen by the town was to develop the site for 256 residential units (a mix of single detached dwellings, accessory dwelling units, semi-detached/duplexes, and townhomes); leaving about 53% of the lands as public green space. The total costs associated with the preferred option (site development costs) was estimated at approx. $128.4 million. A final decision to proceed with the development of the lands has yet to be rendered by the Town. Pending approvals, the parcels of land would be sold to the private sector for development.
