Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in London Britain, Pennsylvania. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

As of April 21, 2023, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for award has not yet been established. For Structure Replacement, Charles Bailey Trail over UNT to East Branch White Clay Creek Each bidder shall visit the project site and acquaint themselves with the existing conditions and the activities involved prior to the time of bidding. The site is located on Charles Bailey Trail in White Clay Creek State Park, London Britain Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Work shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the furnishing of all labor, supervision, materials, tools and equipment, miscellaneous items and performing all work necessary to complete all construction to the satisfaction of, and subject to the approval of, the Department. 2. All construction work shown on the Contract Drawings and not expressly mentioned in the Specifications, and all work specified and not shown on the Contract Drawings but obviously necessary to the proper execution of same, shall be performed by the Contractor, as it is not the intent to delineate or describe every detail and feature of the work. No Change Orders to the Contract will be approved for any materials, equipment and/or labor to perform work hereunder unless it can be clearly shown to be beyond the scope and intent of the Contract Drawings and Specifications, and absolutely essential to the proper prosecution of the work. a. Contractor must carefully review all Drawings for items, materials and work which are not mentioned in the Specifications. 3. Without intending to limit and/or restrict the volume of work required by these Specifications, this Contract consists of the following work at the site: a. All site work to suit project preparation, execution and completion. b. Demolition of the remaining portions of the existing structure which formerly carried Charles Bailey Trail over Unnamed Tributary to East Branch White Clay Creek (15 7935 6451 7501) in White Clay Creek State Park. The existing single span concrete slab superstructure is no longer in place as it was washed out by flooding. Only portions of the existing stone masonry abutments remain. The remnants of the washed out superstructure are stockpiled (rubble) on the east approach. This structure will be replaced with one precast reinforced concrete box culvert with precast reinforced concrete end sections which will provide an 8 foot useable trail width; 14 foot clear span and 7 foot rise. Replacement includes Driving Surface Aggregate (DSA) - 6" Depth, rock lining, and architectural surface treatment. c. Construction of 200 total linear feet of permanent timber split rail fence across the culvert. 4. Access to the site is from the intersection of SR 896 (New London Road) and SR 3009 (Good Hope Road) to the west, in Franklin Township, Chester County. SR 3009 (Good Hope Road) becomes T-317 (Good Hope Road) in London Britain Township. From SR 896 (New London Road), turn onto SR 3009 (Good Hope Road) and head northeast for 3.2 miles to the intersection with T-323 (Broad Run Road) in London Britain Township. Proceed straight (northeast) on T-323 (Broad Run Road) for 0.2 miles to the intersection with T-309 (Watsons Mill Road) in London Britain Township. Turn right and head south on T-309 (Watsons Mill Road) for 0.9 miles to the intersection with T-457 (Yeatmans Station Road) in New Garden Township. Turn right and head southwest on T-457 (Yeatmans Station Road) until it turns into T-325 (Yeatmans Station Road) in London Britain Township. Proceed 1.12 miles to the gate at the Charles Bailey Trail. The project site is located approximately 570 feet beyond the gate. The total length of this route is 5.5 miles and passes through Franklin Township, London Britain Township, and New Garden Township; all in Chester County, PA. 5. One known bridge restriction exists on this route. A bridge on T-309 (Watsons Mill Road) over Broad Run in London Britain Township is a One Lane Bridge posted for 20 Tons. 6. The turn from T-323 (Broad Run Road) onto T-309 (Wastons Mill Road) is very sharp and may be difficult to negotiate with large construction equipment. 7. The Contractor is ultimately responsible for identifying any road and/or bridge restrictions on the selected access route and for coordinating his means and methods of access with the necessary Local and/or State agencies. It is also the responsibility of the Contractor to contact the appropriate Local and/or Sate agencies to determine bonding requirements of the roads prior to beginning Work at the site. Copies of all coordination, documentation, and bonding with the Local and/or State agencies must be supplied to the Department before commencing Work. 8. There will be no detour and Charles Bailey Trail may remain closed as needed to accommodate construction of the Bridge. The Contractor will coordinate his construction schedule with the Park during the Initial Job Conference.
