Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Sandusky, Ohio. Design plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; for paving for a playground / park / athletic field; road / highway; road / highway; and water / sewer project.
As of May 16, 2024, an engineer has been selected and this project is in the design phase. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The City invites qualified professional design firms to submit qualifications to undertake the Churchwell Park Recreation Improvements and MacArthur Park Roadway and Utility Improvements Project. The MacArthur Park area is bounded by Camp and Buchanan Streets, Karl Ann Drive and Perkins Avenue, see site location map provided at the end of the RFQ. This area contains the streets of North, South, East and West Forest Drives, Parkview Boulevard, Clay Street and Forest Drive. Churchwell Park is located within this neighborhood which is an active play park with an existing shelter area. This area is part of the City's South Side Sandusky Neighborhood Plan that is currently under development. The South Side Neighborhood is one of six neighborhoods that was identified in the 2017 Sandusky Neighborhood initiative for areas that needed focus and investment. The city is seeking a design consultant to provide design alternatives to ensure the best outcome for the community given timing requirements and budget constraints, facilitate city staff selection of preferred alternative, and preparation of all documentation required for bidding and construction. Desired outcomes include: A. Strategy for completing needed infrastructure improvements to service existing and future residential development in the neighborhood B. Design of Churchwell Park including expansion of footprint and amenities as guided by the South Side Plan One of the possible design scenarios should include relocating the existing sewer and water linesincluding service lines from the rear of the residential homes to within the existing roadway or public right of way. The design work will need to include roadway improvements due to utility work and include incorporating concrete sidewalks along the roadway which currently doesn't have sidewalks. The design consultant will be tasked with preparing improvement plans for Churchwell Park which should include updated play equipment, shelter, splash pad and improvements to make this park a more accessible and welcoming play area within this neighborhood. As mentioned earlier, the city is requesting design scenarios and recommendations for the park improvements before the final design is selected. The design consultant or subconsultant such as a landscape architect should have experience in several designing play/neighborhood park amenity improvements along with experience in municipal roadway, sewer, and water utilities. The City of Sandusky will form a Selection Committee comprised of city staff to review Qualifications. The Selection Committee will evaluate and select the most qualified consultant. Competitive price selection will not be utilized under the selection process. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
