Renovation of a fire / police facility in Salinas, California. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a fire / police facility.

The City of Salinas (“City”) is requesting a fee proposal to provide architectural and engineering (A/E) design services for the renovation of the City’s six (6) existing Fire Stations (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6). The design team selected for this project shall have a demonstrated experience in fire station design, building renovation work, and adherence to project budgets and schedules. Fire Station # 1: Located at 216 West Alisal Street, Fire Station #1 is an approximately 17,500 square feet, two story facility constructed in 1982. The daily staffing includes a three-person paramedic engine company, a four-person truck company, and the on-duty Battalion Chief. This station houses one reserve fire engine, a reserve fire truck, and the department’s Mobile Command and Communications Vehicles. Fire Station #1 is home to the department's mechanics who maintain all department vehicles. Fire Station # 2: Located at 10 West Laurel Drive, Fire Station #2 is a 3,200 square foot, one-story facility that opened in 1951. The facility currently has two (2) engine bays and houses a three-person, paramedic engine company and a reserve fire engine. Fire Station # 3: Located at 827 Abbott Place, Fire Station #3 is a 4,400 square foot, one-story facility that opened in 1957. The facility currently has 2 engine bays and houses a three-person paramedic engine company, which serves the southern district of the city. Also, this station has one reserve engine. This facility is the home to the training center for the Salinas Fire Department and hosts weekday and weekend drills for department personnel, the Monterey Peninsula College Fire Academy, and other allied agencies. All SFD recruit fire academies are held at this site and comprises a classroom, and a concrete drill tower and other props for ventilation, forcible entry of doors, and breaching to simulate required firefighting activities. The project goal is to demolish the existing training tower and update all fire station facilities. Fire Station # 4: Located at 308 Williams Road, Fire Station #4 is a 5,400 square foot, one-story facility that opened in 1966. The facility currently has 2 engine bays that house a three-person paramedic engine company, a state-owned Type-1 fire engine, and the department’s type-II Aircraft Crash Rescue vehicle. The project goal is to update all fire station systems and facilities. Fire Station # 5: Located at 1400 Rider Avenue, Fire Station #5 is the department's newest fire station, 6,050 square feet, one-story facility constructed in Year 2000 with 4 apparatus bays. The station was expanded in 2014 to house a 3-person paramedic engine company, a 4-person paramedic Ladder Truck, a Type-3 Wildand fire engine, and the department’s Type-I Hazardous Materials Response Unit. The project goal is to add and improve functionality of station systems and add storage facilities. The City reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the pre-poposal meeting and job walk as required. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
