This project addresses the need to renew aging park infrastructure, such as sport courts, skate parks, sports field equipment (lights, scoreboards, fencing, etc.), playgrounds, park path lights, signs, park buildings, and many other types of park amenities. The life cycle of this type of infrastructure ranges from a few years to around 20 years depending on use, quality and level of maintenance. Keeping park infrastructure current is also in keeping with the Citys sustainability goals such as lighting and water efficiency and lowering emissions associated with high levels of maintenance. The parks system has been developed over many years, however, a number of parks installed in the past 20 years and beyond are reaching or have reached their life expectancy and require renewal to maintain safe conditions and serve their intended function. Many of these older parks are in under-served neighborhoods, so renewing them and keeping them fresh, usable and safe maintains equitable access to high quality recreational amenities throughout the City.
