A. The work in this Section includes site dewatering necessary to lower and control groundwater level and hydrostatic pressure, and controlling the site drainage and surface water flows, to allow construction to be performed. 1. It is required that the groundwater level be lowered and maintained at the level necessary to provide a substantially dry and stable grade to allow subsequent operations to be performed. 2. The Contractor shall install all such dewatering equipment as may be necessary, throughout the duration of the project, to maintain the groundwater level, as required. 3. Contractor is responsible for controlling discharge rate and the dewatering systems effect on the groundwater level. 4. The Contractor shall intercept and divert site drainage and surface water flows away from excavations and trenches; using dikes, ditches, pipes, sumps, pumps or other means. 5. The Contractor shall remove standing water from trench or excavation with sumps, pumps and piping or other means. B. It shall be Contractor's responsibility to select materials, methods, and equipment, and design a dewatering system which will: 1. Provide a substantially dry and stable grade to allow subsequent operations to be performed. 2. Effectively reduce the hydrostatic pressure and lower the groundwater level, as required. 3. Not result in damage to adjacent properties, buildings, structures, utilities, private and public water wells, or other work, as a result of settlement, standing water or other groundwater-related effects.
