The project is expected to be awarded around August.** The scope of work consists of full replacement of existing visual message signs at 22 selected Caltrain stations. Project estimate ranges from $3.5M to $4.5M. Required Contractor's License: Class A (General Engineering), or C10 (Electrical). The successful Bidder may submit Securities in lieu of retention payments by the Agency. This Public Works project consists of furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment, services, supervision, and incidentals necessary for the upgrade of Visual Message Signs (VMS) at Agency Stations, which includes the following: 1. Standardize the data communications physical layer to Single Mode Fiber (SMF), at Agency stations where copper or multi-mode fiber are in use. The existing conduit will be re-used to the greatest extent possible, and additional pull boxes may be added per the details provided in the upcoming Bid Documents. 2. Standardize the structural connection to the existing VMS poles. The distance between the centers of the mounting points of the signs will be standardized so that the sign inventory part numbers are reduced. 3. The new signs shall have modern features such as color capability, improved resolution, pixel density, improved maintainability, troubleshooting, back-office management, and modular replacement/repair features. 4. The Project includes Base scope and Two (2) Options; Base scope includes installation of VMS in Five (5) stations, Option 1 includes installation of VMS in Seven (7) stations, and Option 2 includes installation of VMS in Ten (10) stations, as further detailed in the upcoming Bid Documents. 5. The project will require that the new VMS solution is interoperable with the existing Predictive Arrival and Departure System (PADS) which is an ARINC AIM (Wabtec) product. 6. Existing power conductors and Networking equipment will be used to energize & communicate with the VMS. 7. The VMS will be tested by the Contractor and turned over to the Agency with a cutover plan that minimize down time of the VMS. 8. Other work as specified in the Bid Documents specifications and drawings. The Contractor shall perform all works necessary to complete the Project in a satisfactory manner.
