Renovation of a mixed-use development in Huntington, West Virginia. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a educational facility; 5,000-square-foot fitness / recreation center; and 300-seat theater / auditorium.
Marshall University anticipates hiring a firm to assess the existing theater and gymnasium spaces with the Douglas Junior and Senior High School for historic preservation, renovation and future community use. The theater space currently houses approximately 300 seats, a stage, and back stage area. The former gymnasium space is essentially a shell space of approximately 5,000 square feet and is being used as storage. The proposed project will evaluate these spaces structurally and architecturally and identify potential renovations that both comply with historic preservation requirements and accessibility needs. As of June 26, 2023, the due date and time has been confirmed with the owner.
