In 2020, the CRD retained Stantec Architecture Ltd., to conduct a building envelope assessment for the two theatres. The assessment had identified many deficiencies on various brick walls. Based on the current condition and age of these walls they should be remediated in a comprehensive manner to restore them to original condition and minimize potential for water ingress. Repointing of brick at these wall areas should involve removing the existing deteriorated mortar on the exterior and infill the mortar voids with new, structural mortar. The existing sound bricks shall remain with new brick to match the existing. The objective of this "Brick Repair Work Program" is to engage qualified Contractor(s) that have experience in "heritage building" brick wall repair and repointing to enter into Standing Offer Agreements for the repair and repointing of various brick walls at the Royal Theatre and McPherson Playhouse. The CRD has planned to repair these defective brick walls through a five (5) year program. The repair works will be scheduled around the events at the two theatres to minimize the interference with these events. Brick repair work will be awarded to Service Providers at various times in accordance with the Schedule "E" - Process for Awarding Work.
