Renovation of a museum in Deltona, Florida. Completed plans call for the renovation of a museum.
Design, construct, and install a new saltwater aquarium system to house small fish and a connected touch tank to house sea urchins, sea stars, sea cucumbers, and other animals found offshore in Volusia County. Currently have a saltwater tank but it is aged and needs to be replace and updated. The design, construction, and delivery of a single saltwater tank divided into two interconnected systems. One tank will be higher for observation and the other lower tank will be utilized as a touch tank. The freestanding aquarium exhibit will need to replace the existing structure in our Discovery Room (please refer schematic drawings for more details) and be integrated into a single aquarium system. There is some space for the system to have a larger footprint than the existing tank. This system will need to include a support structure (aquarium stand), base rock interior habitat inserts, and all through exhibit plumbing utilizing high quality bulkheads approved by staff, for the Volusia County Lyonia Environmental Center in Deltona. Design and construction include a preliminary meeting to discuss exhibit goals, verification of existing conditions and space, preparing shop drawings and drawings schedule, fabrication details of all components, and the specific project elements listed below delivery. Specific project elements: o Create shop/engineered drawings for staff approval and modifications (if needed) prior to construction. These drawings should be used to ensure the final deliverables meet staff expectations. o One aquarium constructed of flat rectangular acrylic sections with approximate dimensions of one front panel of 48 inches long, one back panel of 48 inches long, two side panels at 48 inches wide, and 24 inches high. The tank capacity will be approximately 240-gallons. o A second aquarium constructed of flat rectangular acrylic sections with approximate dimensions 48 inches long x 24 inches wide x 17 inches high, and approximately 85-gallon capacity. Inflow would be connected from the larger aquarium system, with the outflow into the UV sterilizer, back into the sump (closed, circulating return system). o A support structure or stand, constructed of aluminum or steel, will hold both parts of the system (the 48" by 48" tank and the 48" by 24" tank) when full of salt water. The exterior of the support structure will be finished with a wood frame, or similar, to match existing displays in the Discovery Room. o All through exhibit plumbing utilizing high quality bulkheads approved by staff. Volusia County will be responsible for the design, purchase and installation of a UV sterilizer, aquarium chiller, protein skimmer, sump and life support system components, and any additional lighting. o Live rock interior inserts to consist of the base of a live rock habitat including shelves, holes, and arches, and a reef ledge habitat for the larger aquarium. o A fiberglass touch tank lip with 2-inch overhang with blue gel coat finish, materials to be suggested by contractor. o The proposal must include the dismantling and removal of the existing saltwater aquarium exhibit and an alternative of dismantling/removal being accommodated by Volusia County. Specific items to be retained for future use will be determined during the preliminary meeting Volusia County Environmental Management will be responsible for the relocation and care of current species utilizing the tank until project completion.
