Demolition, site work and renovation of a mixed-use development in Berkeley, California. Completed plans call for the demolition of a power facility; for the renovation of a educational facility; for site work for a educational facility; and power facility.
The Project will include a new centralized electrified heating and cooling plant (EHCP) that will replace the campus existing, aged fossil fuel cogeneration plant and steam system. The EHCP, to be located on North Field in the Campus Park, will provide heating and cooling through new underground hot and chilled water distribution piping to over 12 million square feet of space in approximately 100 campus buildings. Additional components of the Clean Energy Campus include distributed energy resources (DERs) including solar photovoltaic systems, battery storage, geothermal heat exchange and fuel cells for efficiency and critical load backup; upgrades to the campus electrical infrastructure to support a doubling of electrical power needs; and decommissioning of the cogeneration plant.
