Design services for improvements including skate park, wheeled plaza, tennis courts, and more Question Deadline 08/24/2023 Sunset Woods Park is a 34-acre community park centrally located in downtown Highland Park, that serves all residents. The Sunset Woods Improvements project seeks to enhance roughly 9- acres of the park by implementing initiatives from the park's master plan. The Park District of Highland Park's Sunset Woods Park is the City's signature community park. It is centrally located, just west of the City's downtown. The Park currently hosts four playgrounds, three picnic shelters and a field house, a skate park, basketball court, 3 baseball fields, soccer/football fields, 3 hard court tennis courts, 4 clay court tennis courts, trails, woodland and parking. A consultant is being sought to perform design and engineering services for the Sunset Woods Improvements. The awarded team will accomplish the tasks listed below; this list is not exhaustive. The Park District welcomes alternative approaches, the list below is intended to represent the District's project expectations. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to: Task 1: Evaluate needs and Confirm Scope o Evaluate the current conditions of the existing park with a focus on the South +/- 9 acres o Review existing site conditions and field verification with a focus on the South +/- 9 acres o Review Sunset Woods Park Master Plan completed in 2021. It is anticipated that minimal changes will be made to this concept plan. o Review OSLAD submittal for the South +/- 9.0 Acres o Community input plan - Develop a community input plan to facilitate input to confirm scope and develop the existing concept plan: The plan should include specific recommendations and include staff, users and the wider neighborhood and community. Write up notes from each meeting and review notes and conclusion with Park District. Develop specific input plans for; o Input plan for outreach and discussion on transforming 4 clay tennis courts to 4 hard courts o Input plan for outreach and discussion on the addition of the basketball lights and the potential skate park lights o Input plan for outreach and discussion on the design of the skate park and wheeled plaza o Input plan for outreach and discussion on the refined existing concept plan and combined information from other plans Task 2: Concept Plans o Refine the existing concept plan based on feedback from user groups and community input. We anticipate very little change to the Concept Plan. Provide options for sub areas if appropriate. o Develop cost estimate for concept plan. o Review Concept Plan (with provided options) and cost estimates with Park District project team, make revisions as needed. o Attend a Park District Board of Commissioners Meeting to present two concept alternatives. (This work shall be optional) o Attend Community Meetings as per input plans o Attend Community Meeting to present the preferred concept Task 2: Design Development o Develop 50% plan set, estimated costs, estimated schedule. o Review in-progress plans with Park District and make revisions as needed o Communicate with pertinent permitting agencies and or/entities to inform design o Attend (1) meeting with Park District staff to review
