As of October 30, 2025, this project is in the planning. An engineer has not been selected. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. A detailed scope has not yet been released. While the first attempt at the project, which includes a bridge over the Platte River north of Bellwood, stalled, a second attempt is underway with the cost study already completed. The route, which is approximately 7 miles long, would connect Highway 64 with Highway 30 on the eastern edge of Columbus, near ADM and other industrial sites. The new route is projected to be used daily by 3,800 personal vehicles and 550 semi trucks and is estimated to cost $57 million, mostly coming from federal funding. The group is seeking the support of Platte County, Butler County, Colfax County, Polk County, and the City of Columbus as regional projects are more successful at receiving federal funds. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
