The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is the only countywide highway district in Idaho. It was established in 1971 as an independent government entity by a vote of the people. ACHD is responsible for more than 5,170 lane miles of roadways within Ada County and its six cities. This roadway and bridge system has an estimated value of $3 billion. ACHD is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and improvements to local roads and bridges within Ada County. This excludesstate highways and Interstates 84 and 184 which are operated by the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD). In addition, ACHD also serves as the Traffic Signal System Manager for Ada County and is responsible for the operation of all 457 signalized intersections and 102 pedestrian hybrid beacon crossings within Ada County. Traffic Signal Central Software (TSCS) and NEMA Advanced Traffic Controllers (ATC). The equipment will be installed at approximately 600 signalized intersections and pedestrian crossings within Ada County, Idaho by ACHD staff. Most of the locations are tied into the ACHD Traffic Management Center (TMC) by a fiber communications network. It is anticipated that 300 devices will be purchased in FY2024, and the remaining units purchased in FY2025.
