Site work for a water / sewer project in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The Smith Creek water and sewer system currently serves the area generally located along Rt. 11 north of the City of Harrisonburg. The sewer in this area is pumped through a series of pump stations that ultimately discharge into the City of Harrisonburg collection system which includes the City's Smithland Road pump station. The system capacity is limited due to restrictions in both the pump station and gravity lines. This project would extend a County sewer main either south through the City or around the northeast edge of the City and connect to an existing County or sewer authority main. This project would reduce sewer capacity issues as well as reliance on the City for sewer in this area. The project is included in the County's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 21, 2024, funded for FY2027-2028. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
