As of October 17, 2023, an engineer has been selected and this project is in the design phase. Although a firm timeline for construction has not been determined, construction is expected to start in April 2025 and end in December 2026. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project will provide long term structural stability of the lock chamber walls and floor of the Montello Dam Lock Chamber and continued ability to manipulate water levels. In addition to a sagging stacked stone wall, small sinkholes have been identified in the earthen embankment behind both lock walls. Complete reconstruction of the lock channel may be needed if the structural issues are significant enough to merit it. The stacked stone wall is historically significant; the selected firm will assist the DNR in historical coordination as appropriate. Additionally, State Highway 22 crosses over the lock chamber; coordination with WISDOT, other utility companies, and adjacent landowners is anticipated.
