Site work for a water / sewer project in Danville, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The City has 331 miles of water main in the system. More than 144 miles are cast iron and another 8.6 miles are galvanized steel. More than 34 miles of the cast iron are 80 years old or older. Cast iron mains typically fail due to their brittle nature. Funding for replacement will allow for planned, non-emergency, systematic replacement of these mains with an opportunity to improve water quality, fire protective services, and system reliability. As of November 17, 2023, this project is included in the city’s 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Construction expected FY2024-2028. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
