As of October 8, 2024, project has been awarded and architect identified. Project Description: The Project will be modification of an existing Elementary School prototype, to be located on a 6-acre parcel of land, cleared and rough-graded, located at River Heritage Boulevard and Thoroughgood Drive, Dumfries, Virginia. The school will have a design capacity of approximately 850 students and approximately 120,000 square feet. PWCS desires a design that will include the following aspects: Compliance with regulations and standards established by the Virginia Board of Education for new construction, including consideration of security and crime prevention through building design (Virginia Code 22.1-140) Energy positive building design, as required by Virginia Code 22.1-141.1 Adherence to PWCS Sustainability Design Principles Indoor air quality, thermal/acoustic/visual comfort, and universal design that exceed minimum standards of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code On-site renewable energy generation that exceeds the EUI via a solar photovoltaic array Maximum Energy Use Intensity (EUI): 30 Overall minimum insulation R-values: 30-roof, 25-wall, 10-under-slab Thermally broken windows with insulated glass Glazing percentage: 30% Airtightness: 0.15 cfm/sf Integration of sustainable design, environmental stewardship, and supportive learning environment which, together, will maximize student learning and success Building systems that are durable, straightforward to operate/control, and that are easily maintained Anticipated Award: March 2024
