As of March 5, 2024, the city approved the bond referendum for the complex. Per owner, a design team has not been selected yet. They will have an RFP process to select the design firm, but it has not been issued yet. They are working through the site selection process now and then will get the design portion going. They're hoping for construction in 2025-2026. The city authorized a firm for gap analysis, community engagement and concept design. The City of Rochester is planning to build a new regional sports and recreation complex. The complex would help address residents’ growing demand for indoor and outdoor multi-purpose fields and courts and strengthen the City’s sports tourism market by attracting more regional and local amateur sports events. The proposed complex will provide state-of-the-art facilities for Rochester residents and regional tournaments. The complex would also strengthen the City’s sports tourism market by attracting more state and local amateur sports, thus helping utilize the City’s 6,000 hotel rooms and area restaurants. While the City will continue to engage residents to gather their input as it further develops plans for the complex, the initial plan includes: Synthetic turf and multi-purpose fields A tournament-quality pickleball complex Indoor multi-purpose courts - basketball/volleyball/pickleball Indoor children’s play areas Flexible community spaces The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time
